How to choose CDN RTMP Streaming

Today, OTT television and entertainment services are expanding, the entertainment market is also more competitive. Therefore, to increase the ability to attract viewers, media manufacturers have invested more in CDN services for media, including CDN RTMP streaming. So how do choose the best CDN RTMP Streaming? Please follow our article.

What is CDN RTMP Streaming?

CDN RTMP Streaming actually includes 2 services: RTMP Streaming and CDN (Content Delivery Network).

RTMP Streaming

RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) is a powerful streaming support protocol developed by Adobe (formerly Macromedia). RTMP allows for low latency streaming, used with Flash player application. It can be used for streaming VoD or Live Streaming.

RTMP Streaming provides high-performance audio, video, and data transmission from transcoder to internet signal distribution server.

Although Adobe stopped providing Flash players, the RTMP Streaming protocol continues to evolve with the help of standard RTMP transcoders.

Another standard with RTMP is HLS (HTTP Live Streaming). This is a protocol standard for HTTP Live Streaming. It is developed by Apple and is intended for devices like iOS, Quick Time Player, and Android 3.0. HLS can be deployed on most HTTP servers (including Apache) or some commercial streaming servers like Adobe FMS and Wowza.

HLS is HTTP-based, so it uses a web server to transmit content. This means you don’t need special infrastructure, just have a web server or use a CDN. With HLS video will be divided into small segments, which is the adaptive bit-rate video method, which means you can choose the appropriate video format (480p, 720p …) for transmission over the Internet depending on the speed of the user’s network.

CDN (Content Delivery Network)

In essence, a CDN is a network of an infinite number of servers distributed in many parts of the world. These CDN servers deliver web content to users everywhere.

CDN is important for streaming video transmission. This is a technology that helps to deliver many different types of content, quickly and economically, to a multitude of users around the globe.

No matter where you are on the internet and what kind of content you are accessing, the data you are viewing is stored on the CDN. CDN technology is specifically designed to solve a fundamental problem that is difficult for netizens: latency.

There are many reasons for high latency, but the main one is still the geographical distance between the visiting user and the website’s host server. CDN will help reduce this gap and increase effective website performance.

Benefits of CDN RTMP Streaming

  • CDN solves the transmission speed issues of streaming media: video, and audio. CDN helps speed up content access and increase user experience.

  • CDN saves server infrastructure costs for OTT entertainment and television businesses.

CDN helps to minimize latency.

  • CDN helps to reach a huge number of users at the time of live streaming (especially outstanding events that attract many viewers such as football, live music, …)

Many people often believe that long-standing CDN service providers should be preferred. Because their CDN infrastructure is large enough to serve all customers. And we completely agree with this.

There are quite a few leading CDN providers in the world, so you can decide which CDN provider is best suited for distributing your video content. But first, list all of your requirements and the budget you have, so that you have a plan for choosing a suitable CDN provider.

Although the CDN offers many benefits in terms of improved performance, availability, as well as high scalability. But not all CDNs support RTMP. Therefore, selecting the right CDN, which provides the features needed to support a wide variety of situations, is essential for media producers.

Today, many CDN providers only support HLS Streaming, so you need to choose a CDN provider that serves as a platform for both HTTP and RTMP protocols. As a result, a TV media producer can stream live streaming with low latency, giving viewers the ability to receive RTMP traffic and also HLS for other viewers.

VNCDN provides both CDN HLS and RTMP services. Our live streaming service automatically transcodes the original stream to RTMP or HLS, ensuring viewers can access live streaming content using any device.
