Knowing the Market, Finding the Precise Solution
More than a decade ago, the technology industry was panicking because of massive DDoS attacks that paralyzed corporate and business websites for hours or even consecutive days. The amount of loss reached tens of billions of Vietnamese dong, causing many businesses to suffer.
At that time, Mr. Nguyen Van Tao was a system and security administrator specialist at several large companies in Vietnam. He witnessed many attacks that caused heavy losses to businesses, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which have weak “resistance”, limited potential, and difficult access to expensive cybersecurity solutions from abroad vendors. There was a time when he had to support the restoration of hundreds of websites.
Witnessing businesses suffer from these cyber attacks, with his in-depth knowledge of security, Mr. Tao felt a burning passion to create comprehensive security products and services for businesses of all sizes, providing “resistance” for the entire market, and helping businesses develop safely in cyberspace.
When Mr.Tao shared his vision for starting a cybersecurity company, he met with many objections like “That’s not your job”, “You can’t do it”, “It won’t work”, etc. Despite the doubts and the belief that defending against cyber attacks was impossible, Mr. Tao remained determined to pursue the set goal.
The result of his persistence is a comprehensive security system on the cloud platform, incorporating advanced technologies like AI and following the top security standards of OWASP’s Top 10. His determination allowed him to make the most of the market boom, leading to VNETWORK experiencing growth in both infrastructure and revenue, doubling in size each year.
The CEO highlighted that Vietnam remains one of the countries with the highest number of cyber attacks, particularly targeting businesses through websites and emails. To address this issue, VNETWORK’s products focus on protecting these two key areas.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tao is also well aware of the rapid growth of the information technology industry and its associated risks. Instead of just offering standalone solutions, he envisions transforming VNETWORK into a top-notch cybersecurity rescue center in both Vietnam and Asia.
Staying ahead of the global security trends
Mr. Nguyen Van Tao began his journey to provide comprehensive security solutions for businesses with a progressive mindset. He assembled a team of experienced and visionary experts, not just within Vietnam but also from countries with advanced security technology.
At the time of its conception, the main form of website attack was DDoS traffic, which could overload the web server and cause service interruptions, making it inaccessible to real users.
To counter this, he established the VNCDN system, which has multiple servers linked and positioned in various regions worldwide, known as Points of Presence (PoP). He understood that good security requires strong infrastructure first.
In 2015, the company partnered with a Singaporean firm to integrate the CDN platform into the cloud, resulting in a significant increase in load-carrying capacity. To date, the system has more than 280 PoPs CDN worldwide. Today, the system comprises over 280 PoPs globally, with domestic CDN bandwidth exceeding 4Tbps and hundreds of servers located in Tier 3 Standard Data Centers across three regions of Vietnam.
Mr. Tao early predicted that the market trend would become increasingly sophisticated in terms of DDoS attacks. To prepare for this, Vnetwork not only developed a large enough CDN infrastructure to mitigate DDoS attack traffic at Layer 3 and Layer 4 but also equipped itself with advanced security technology to protect against Layer 7 (application layer) attacks.
The VNIS security platform, designed to protect websites, applications, and APIs, is a product of collaboration between top cybersecurity experts from around the world. VNIS platform has many outstanding features, particularly the Multi CDN that integrates and manages leading CDNs. VNIS boasts the innovative Multi CDN feature, which integrates and manages multiple leading CDNs to offer robust protection against major DDoS attacks, ensuring optimal website performance even under attack. VNIS was recognized by Gartner, a leading security organization, as a representative platform for the world’s top Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) due to this advantage.
VNIS also has Multi WAF with multiple Cloud WAF clusters located in various countries and territories, effectively defending against Layer 7 DDoS attacks. When website traffic spikes, Cloud WAF leverages the power of cloud infrastructure to quickly isolate potential threats. The WAF Scrubbing Center, coordinating the efforts of Cloud WAF clusters globally, enhances VNIS’s defense against Layer 7 DDoS attacks.

Furthermore, VNETWORK uses AI Load Balancing and Real User Monitoring (RUM) to analyze the sources of attacks and monitor real user interactions with the website, allowing for effective control of website traffic. The CDN Powers up feature enables smooth content transmission to approach challenging markets, such as China, with or without an ICP license (in the vicinity of China).
VNETWORK is also working towards a long-term goal of establishing Security Operation Centers (SOCs) in locations such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, etc. These SOCs continuously monitor the status of websites and promptly detect and prevent potential attacks, ensuring website safety and optimal performance.
These impressive features have earned VNIS the trust of many large, prestigious organizations and enterprises, especially in the financial and securities sector, such as HSC, VPS, VNDIRECT, VietCapital, and Momo, among others. According to Mr. Tao, these companies have tried various world-leading security solutions but still chose VNIS due to its differences and outstanding advantages.
“Large enterprises are very savvy,” says the CEO, “They choose the best product that offers the highest value. Thus when these organizations choose VNETWORK after using foreign products, I am very pleased. It is a source of pride for me that our loyal customer base includes global giants.” uses AI Load Balancing and Real User Monitoring (RUM) to analyze the sources of attacks and monitor real user interactions with the website, allowing for effective control of website traffic. Leading in email security solutions
The growth of online buying, selling, and trading has made the internet a lively and robust marketplace. But this increase in activity has also brought with it greater risks from cyber attacks, particularly targeted attacks on information exchange portals like email.
As noted by Mr. Nguyen Van Tao, new phishing techniques are constantly emerging, but the ability to update the pattern sets of email firewall systems with information about these new viruses is not quick enough to keep up, resulting in significant losses for businesses, both in terms of assets and reputation.
To address these concerns, VNETWORK has deployed an email firewall solution called EG-Platform to protect businesses. This comprehensive email security solution protects both incoming and outgoing emails, fighting spam, detecting hacker attacks, and identifying new viruses through the use of AI, Virtual Area (VA), and Machine Learning (ML) technology.
EG-Platform can analyze emails containing the latest viruses and add them to a list of emails to be blocked and filtered. The system learns from the history of email exchanges in a business to understand normal and unusual email activity, allowing it to improve email filtering efficiency based on the specific needs of each business.
The solution ensures the prevention of various email attacks, including spam, viruses, ransomware (emails with malicious code that encrypts business data), and phishing emails. In particular, EG-Platform is equipped to handle targeted email attacks, such as APT and BEC. The system pre-filters emails to ensure users only receive clean emails. When a user clicks to open an email, they are not affected by any malicious content.
For incoming emails, EG-Platform uses AI to learn all factors, including the domain, header, body, footer, and even the email’s path history, to determine if the email is being sent from another server. If the email contains new viruses, the virtual area within the EG-Platform system will open the email and check the compressed attachments to ensure they do not change the user’s computer, including the RAM, CPU, and executable software. By opening the email in the virtual area, the risk of attacks from new viruses is reduced.
EG-Platform has received certifications from leading security organizations such as Gartner, Rapid7, and ITSCC, and is highly recommended by Gartner. The solution is currently used by large enterprises globally, including the US, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, and more, and is used by companies like Gilimex, Nhat Tin, LG, Hyundai, etc.
Do security: It’s hard, so you need to be patient
Looking back on a journey of over 10 years, the CEO of VNETWORK stated that what brings him the most happiness is the company’s role in protecting many businesses from cybersecurity attacks, thereby enhancing the strength of the information technology industry in Vietnam.
The present outcome is the answer to past concerns, with VNETWORK’s solution proving its effectiveness and meeting market demands. The CEO believes that, as hackers come from all over the world, the formation of a “security alliance” is necessary to increase strength, rather than trying to confront the world alone.
VNETWORK was granted the Certificate of Science and Technology Enterprise from the Ministry of Science and Technology and numerous industry awards. With over 2,000 domestic and foreign corporate customers in various industries, including education, healthcare, journalism, e-commerce, logistics, finance, and information technology, etc. Vnetwork is working with three of the four major e-commerce brands in the market.
In the long term, the company aims to develop a SIEM system for collecting data to predict attacks. With the rapid development of 5G technology, VNETWORK is also researching security solutions for this platform.
According to Mr. Tao, there is still a large market for cybersecurity services, as many businesses have not yet had access to such technology. VNETWORK continues its mission of helping all businesses to create a resistant community. The company has opened branches in foreign markets such as Singapore and established R&D departments in countries like Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, the UK, etc.
In recent years, with the Vietnamese government’s investment policy in security for the government and state sectors, VNETWORK expressed a desire to contribute to these efforts.
“We do not buy foreign products to resell to the Vietnamese market. On the contrary, we come up with ideas and build a 10-year roadmap for the domestic security industry. From there, we request foreign experts to build and develop according to that plan. The combination of high-tech products from the international market and localization products for each country is one of the important factors leading to the success of VNETWORK,” the CEO emphasized at the end of the conversation.
